Mr. Ng studied English language and literature as well as linguistics at the University of Hong Kong. He was on the Dean's List for three years and graduated with a first class honours degree and an R.K.M. Simpson Prize in English. He received his Post-graduate Diploma in Education from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Before teaching in secondary schools, he was a graduate student and a teaching assistant in the Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University of Delaware in the USA. He is currently an English teacher at Po Leung Kuk Vicwood K.T. Chong Sixth Form College but has taught in other local subsidized schools before. Externally, he has served the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority as a marker and an oral examiner for the HKCEE and the HKALE.

Indo-European and Germanic Influences

English is a member of the Indo-European family of languages. This broad family includes most of the European languages spoken today. The Indo-European family includes several major branches:
