同學生做2002年UE Section C，其中有一題考學生對 "possibility" 一詞運用之認識，甚為有趣，決定拿來同大家討論。

題目為：
"Then, there's __(26)__ possibility of being attacked by a hippo or crocodile."
A.  the very real
B.  a present
C.  always
D.  worrying

大多數學生都認為這題答案應該是A，只是不明所以。其實，題目考學生兩個概念：(一)，句中 "possibility" 一詞是可數名詞[countable noun]，前面需要加定/不定冠詞[definite/indefinite article] "a/the"；(二)，甚麼形容詞可與 "possibility" 一詞搭配[collocate]使用。基於概念(一)，選擇C或D都不對；基於概念(二)，選擇B也不對，因為 "possibility" 有未來的含義，不可能與 "present" 或 "past" 搭配使用。英語可以說："a/the future possibility of something"，但不能說："a past/present possibility of something"。"possibility" 一詞還可與 "great"、"serious"、"strong" 等其他形容詞搭配使用，意思與 "real" 差不多。相反意思則可說成："a faint/remote possibility"。
